Hi Jb,

Thanks for your question. For your undergrad, you just need to take the SAT. You can start thinking about taking the LSAT in your junior year of college.

Law school admission requires a degree from a four-year college; so, a GED alone won't get you in. Law schools favor academic performance. So focus on excelling while you are in college.

Best wishes and good luck on your career!

I am considering a degree in law. But a bit confused. For my undergraduate school, I need to take the SAT or do I start with the LSAT? I have been trying to contact an undergraduate school with no call back from them yet! Also can I go into law with a GED?

Hi Deedi,

There are no specific required classes for law school. But I would recommend classes that emphasize analytic thinking such as economics, political science or hard sciences. These classes show the admissions committee that you are an analytic thinker.

This is not to say that these are the only kinds of classes you should take. But these don't need to be explained in your application in the same way that less analytically focused classes might be.

Best wishes!

Are there any specific classes you might need for any law schools? I know that there are a lot of specific pre-med requirements. Is there anything like that for pre-law?

Hi Kelsie,

Thanks so much for your comment. This is one of those things where there is no one-size-fits-all answer. Admission to the Bar is managed at the state level. So, you need to contact the Bar Association for your state and ask them if those charges would block your ability to practice.

In California, there is a Moral Character application you have to complete while you are in law school that details this kind of information. I don't know the details, but your circumstances don't sound too bad to me. But you should still check to make sure all is well before you apply to law school.

In the meantime, best wishes in your Bachelor's degree!

I am 27 I have attended some college and didn't so so well I didn't have my head in it, I have since then had a baby and moved and most of all grown up. I have always wanted to go to law school and am starting school this aug. I am worried that some trouble I got into when I was 18 may hold me back, I have two misdomenior obstruction of justice charges. Is there any chance I can still become a lawyer with this background? I have nothing else on my record but this. I have looked for this answer everywhere, and I would like to know before I start working on my bachlors so I know weither or not to keep tryin for law school! Thanks

Hi Chabi,

I would suggest that you investigate a couple of things. First off, if you already have a law degree in Morocco, I would suggest investigating LLM programs. This is often a faster route to a legal credential for those who have law degrees in other countries.

Second, if you want to pursue a JD, I would suggest that you contact your prospective law schools directly and find out what is required for admission for students with international transcripts and credentials.

I wish I could give you a more specific path, but it might vary from school to school and state to state. But it should be pretty straightforward to find more information from specific law school websites.

Best wishes and good luck on your journey!
